Lutron Excellence Award 2022: Judges Choice

West Village, one of the most sought after neighborhoods to live, famous for its picturesque colonial brownstones and intimate European cafes and cobblestone lined streets. In this charming neighborhood sits one of the largest brownstones - two large townhomes combined into a single unit with 19,000 livable square feet. Just down the street from fashionable New Yorkers such as Sarah Jessica Parker. Designed by starchitect Annabelle Selldorf, luxury designer Paul Renwick and Arnold Chan of Isometrix (recently named the world’s most outstanding Chinese lighting designer), this home has been 8 years in the making.

There is a level of technology integration that can only be realized through a long-standing collaboration with Selldorf Architects, as it was because of this special relationship with Selldorf and this particular client that OneButton relocated their company from Boulder Colorado to New York. Now 16 years later, OneButton has completed one of their biggest projects in the history of the company. Nearly $2 million dollars in smart technology, with Lutron being a majority of the scope. One of the first and largest Ketra projects, deploying $150K of Ketra budget, 150 Ketra fixtures, 3 Ketra N4’s, 5 Lutron Processors, 225 Lutron lighting loads and over 75 Lutron motorized window treatments. Isomterix was delighted in the versatility of the Lutron system, allowing for their choice of specialty 3rd party lighting keypads to be used throughout the space, enabling a tailored design for the end user.

“With Lutron we get great communication and support. Lighting adjustments are very user friendly where we don’t have to rely on the electrician to be onsite to adjust levels.” - Olivier Moitry - Associate lighting designer of Isometrix

This five-story townhouse was transformed from a series of dark rooms into a light-filled home for an avid collector of antique light fixtures and art work. Central to the design was a signature spiral staircase by Selldorf architects. A dramatic and sweeping stairwell that is crowned by a skylight, which allows daylight to flood every floor. Throughout the stairwell vintage sconces are used with Ketra A20 lamps to match the outdoor light throughout the day. During the evening a warmer temperature fills the 7 floor stairwell dimming down to .1% at 1800k during the late hours of the evening, requiring no “off” switch. Warm dim lighting fixtures are used at each stair landing, tuned to match the temperature of the Ketra lamps perfectly.

Lutron Excellence Award 2022: Best Homeworks Project

Located on one of the most coveted Santa Monica streets, overlooking a canyon and views of the Pacific Ocean, sits Coral House, named after a tree that stands proudly at its entrance. A collaboration between the acclaimed contemporary west coast architecture firm Whipple Russell and reputable Italian design firm LTA+D. The owner wanted this home to be a fun but functional living space for him and his children. This 1400 sq ft modern abode consists of three levels of glass walkways made up of floor to ceiling windows to bring in lots of natural light. Finishes and materials made up of Italian stone, steel, wood, mosaics and porcelain, along with reclaimed pieces and custom cabinetry. The lighting was designed by LTA+D, together with Fabertechnica, called for a specialty low voltage system that would be compatible with many exotic european fixture types and allow for scene controls following “Title 24” regulations. The Lutron Homeworks QS System made this possible..

Lutron Homeworks QS made “Title 24” regulations possible through its sophisticated control system and compatibility testing. Part of the regulations include Lutron occupancy sensors in every utility space, including laundry rooms. All interior lighting fixtures require a 90+ CRI rating to ensure accurate rendering. Exterior lighting follows “Dark Sky Regulations” during the evening, especially required being so close to the coast. Each fixture requires minimizing glare while reducing light trespass and skyglow. All are required to be fully shielded to minimize the amount of blue light in an evening environment. Due to code requirements, the use of 3 Lutron PD9 and PD8 Feed-Through panels, rather than the standard Lutron Din Breaker Panels, were used to accommodate 150 loads of Lutron Homeworks QS lighting.
